Numerous older residential area buildings do not have access to the street because some of the are extremely dense. Many of the seven story residential buildings are separated by excessively small passages. This serves as a fire hazard because in many areas, fire equipment could not fit into the narrow areas.

81 road passenger transport organizations, 35 regular bus companies, 66 chartered vehicle companies, and 20 regular buses and chartered vehicles companies existed by March 2015 in Shenzhen. Throughout the city, there are long distance buses to go to all major countries and cities in Macao, Guangdong, and Hong Kong, in addition to over twenty provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions.
