The second generation of migrants to Shenzhen spoke Mandarin and were attracted to the area because of the economic opportunities accessible throughout the city. Within a few years later, Shenzhen was the one city in China where most of the citizens migrating from other areas in the world. Standard Chinese or Mandarin are the official languages of the country. Also, Guangdong's only city that spoke Mandarin was Shenzhen.
